Updating windows controls
for Windows 9x, ME, and NT:
Update shfolder.dll:
- Download, extract, and execute shfolder
- Try to create project again
Update shell32.dll:
- Determine the Shell32.dll version
- Click Start, point to Find, and then click Files and Folders. The Find: All Files window appears
- In the Named box, type shell32.dll
- Ensure that the Look in box is set for the C drive (or whichever drive Windows is installed to)
- Click Find Now. The file will appear in a results section at the bottom of the Find window
- Right-click the version that appears in the ..\System (9x & ME) or ..\system32 (NT) folder and then click Properties
- Click the Version tab of the Properties window. The version number will be on this page
- If the version of Shell32.dll is older than 4.71, then you need to update Shell32.dll

- The regular method of renaming this file and copying in a newer file
- Upgrading to Internet Explorer 5.0
- Upgrading over Windows 95 to Windows 98
- Applying any upgrades or service packs to either Windows 9x or Windows NT 4.0

- If you still have Internet Explorer 4.01 installed, you can download and install Internet Explorer 4.01 Service Pack 2 from Microsoft (this service pack will update Shell32.dll to version 4.72.3612.1700 dated: 3/16/99 11:43AM)
- If you have already updated to Internet Explorer 5.0 and still have the incompatible version of Shell32.dll, you will have to either remove Internet Explorer 5.0, if possible, and apply Internet Explorer 4.01 Service Pack 2, or contact Microsoft for a different way to update Shell32.dll
